Frequent and/or Painful Urination

Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go! Urinary urgency and frequency can occur suddenly and are usually associated with painful urination. The most common cause is usually a simple bladder infection, also called cystitis.

What to do:
  • Stay hydrated by drinking large amounts of water which will decrease the bacterial colony count and help your symptoms.
  • Take an over-the-counter drug called azo standard that will alleviate your painful urination (i.e. dysuria).
  • Get a urine culture to identify the organism infecting you so we can prescribe the right antibiotic.

If your symptoms start on the weekend, come to us for a urine culture on Monday. If your symptoms start after office hours during the week, come in the next day. However, if you feel you simply cannot wait, please call our office for after-hours instructions.
