Although the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED) increases with age, around 52 percent of all men experience some form of ED during their lives.

For best results, repeat the process several times over three to five sets.

If you’re a younger man with ED, reducing stressors, exercising, and reviewing your diet could be all it takes to reduce your symptoms. Such lifestyle changes work on several levels as they help improve your physical health, mental health, body image, and more.  

There’s a clear link between improved ED and weight loss, as men with obesity have a 40 percent higher risk of ED. Eating a nutritious diet can also help to boost your intake of vitamins and minerals. For example, zinc and vitamin D may boost testosterone and improve the symptoms of ED.

Diet and exercise can also help manage underlying conditions that contribute to ED, such as hypertension and diabetes. And, you’ll find that increasing activity levels and eating better helps with anxiety, depression, body image, and self-esteem. 

Taking steps to reduce stress can also help with ED. This is because chronic stress reduces blood flow to the penis, making it more difficult to maintain an erection. The same applies to smoking and alcohol, which can both damage blood vessels and decrease blood flow. Reducing your alcohol intake, stopping smoking, and learning ways to manage stress are some of the best ways to improve your physical, mental, and sexual health. 

3. Counseling or Sex Therapy

The causes of ED can be physical, psychological, or a combination of the two. Likewise, the symptoms of ED can extend beyond the physical difficulty in maintaining an erection.

Failure to perform can lead many men to experience heightened anxiety and depression, which can further worsen ED. Therapy may help break this cycle by addressing such ED-related psychological issues. 

This 2021 study found that interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are effective. And research from 2018 showed that mindfulness therapy may help improve ED symptoms.

Sex therapy is another option for ED related to stress or performance anxiety. You can attend sex therapy with your partner or alone. Although, couples therapy offers the added benefit of helping your partner learn ways to support you.  

Whether through CBT, sex therapy, or some other form of counseling, dealing with mental health conditions and negative sexual associations is very effective at improving libido and sexual performance as a result. 

4. Alternative Therapies 

Many people prefer to try a different tactic when it comes to ED treatment options. Popular home ED remedies and alternative therapies include yoga, massage, meditation, and acupuncture.

Although there are few studies available to support the effectiveness of such treatments, they can help to reduce stress, which could then improve ED. Acupuncture also improves nerve sensitivity and increases blood flow, so this could be worth considering as an alternative ED therapy with more potential. 

Considering Natural ED Treatment Options

As this list shows, there are many effective natural ways to treat ED, including erectile dysfunction exercises, lifestyle changes, and more. The availability and health-promoting benefits of many of these ED treatment options make them great options to consider.
